Barkly West, South Africa. 2014. Jacob Mocumi (20) was forced to leave school after completing grade 9. "My family had financial problems, so I left school to find some work to help support my brothers and sisters. I really want to be a front end loader driver and work for the mines, but I know that I need to get grade 12 before I can apply."
Alliwal North, South Africa. 2015. Ntombi Jack (20) completed his matric. "My family paid for me to do a 6 month computer course, but I didn't manage to find any work. I want to be a business manager, but it is a financial issue, because I can't afford to pay for college."
Laingsburg, South Africa. 2014. Maroline Sterkse (18) left school after finishing grade 9. " just didn't like school and found it difficult. Now I get a few odd jobs picking and packing grapes on the farms."
Aberdeen, South Africa. 2015. Vuyisa Maqabangqa (20) finished matric and wanted to study law, but he now looks after his younger brother. "My mother died a few weeks before I wrote matric and after that, things fell apart at home."
Kimberley, South Africa. 2014. Bianca van Coler (18) left school after finishing grade 10. She had a baby and her stepmother forced her to leave school so that she could look after her child. "I need to get a grant from the government, so I can put my baby in the creche and then go back to school."
Victoria West, South Africa. 2014. Janine Witboy (19) left school in grade 7 due to financial problems at home. "I think that I could do something good with my life, but I don't actually think it will happen."
Touwsrivier, South Africa. 2014. Francois van Kraamberg (16) left school after completing grade 10. "The local school was full so I had to go to a school in another town. I had to leave early to get there and I always arrived back late. I became too tired to concentrate. I really want to become a computer programmer, so I am going to try to find a place in the local school next year."
Burgersdorp, South Africa. 2015. Athenkosi Gatyeni (18) left school after grade 6 when his father told him that he needed to find some work so he could help at his family. "I work a bit as a dee-jay. I have never really thought about what I want to become."
Aberdeen, South Africa. 2015. Siphosethu Rabe (18) left school after completing matric. "I got good marks, and I want to study Human Recources Management. I don't have parents and my grandmother doesn't have enough money to pay for me to study. I have tried to find a bursary, but I haven't had any luck."
Touwsrivier, South Africa. 2014. Jeandre Robson (16) was forced to leave school after completing grade 9, due to financial problems at home. "My mother told me to stay at home and look after my younger brother, (Moreagan, 1 year old), while she goes to work. I want to go back to school, but I am worried that all the girls in my class will be so much younger than me."
Ritchie, South Africa. 2014. Samantha Vos (17) left school in grade 9. "I got pregnant and now I just stay here in my shack. I wont go back to school and I can't find work, so I must live off my government child grant."
Touwsrivier, South Africa. 2014. Mario Scheffers (20) left school in grade 10 when his girlfriend got pregnant. "We both left school. She looks after the child and I had to find some small jobs. I have sent my CV to a lot of companies trying to get a permanent job, so I am just hoping that someone will call."
Middelburg, South Africa. 2015. Sinovoyo Sesini (20) left school in grade 8 after falling pregnant. "I want to get my life together, but I don't have money. I just stay with my parents and look after my child."
Ritchie, South Africa. 2014. Mosele Scheepers (19) left school in grade 9 after having a baby. "I did really well at school and I always wanted to be a doctor, but now I have two children and it is difficult. If I can get my aunt to look after the kids, I will go back to school."
Steynburg, South Africa. 2015. Nosiphelelo Sopayisi (17) left school after completing grade 9. "I messed up and got involved with some township gangsters. Then I got pregnant. I am ashamed of my mistakes and I want to go back to school so that I can make my mother proud of me again."
De Doorns, South Africa. 2014. Davidine Leanard (17) left school after completing grade 8. "I started using drugs and couldn't concentrate anymore. I won't go back to school, because they don't want me there. I had a fight with another girl over drugs and she landed up in Intensive Care for four days."
